It sounds like it would be a lovely romance. Ibbotson worships at the altar of beauty far too much to resist lambasting those who put even more time, money and effort into creating something ugly than into creating something fluutes.
Magic Flutes, by the end of it, had stolen my heart and quickly became my favourite Ibbotson book so far. With good writ I’m not sure which is more crazy, the fact that I read this book or that I enjoyed it!

All the girls are young and full of loving, giving life, and all the guys are about 10 years older, hot-tempered and remarkably talented. He understood human nature and she used her knowledge perfectly creating all characters. He then goes back to the girl he once loved. It sounded like the main characters of A Countess Below Stairs changed their names and got dropped into the setting of The Star of Kazan only fifteen years later.
Especially when contrasted with a miserably self-seeking, comically vain, narrow-minded drama queen. Guy worked hard to please Martha and turned his energy to his studies. This section needs additional citations for verification. Tessa is a volunteer at the Viennese Opera and does everything but actually sing on stage.
But anyway, I couldn’t renew this book from the library, so I set out to read it in three hours. The Unconscious, lately discovered by Professor Freud and used by others to store their joys, fears and frustrations, was for Nerine a gigantic subterranean wardrobe.
I really enjoyed this tale as will any fan of Downton Abbey and similar programs. Ibbotson wrote this book in honor of her husband who had died just before she wrote ita former naturalist. I am sure of it, after reading her books and about her life. Anyhow, I thought to persevere and finish the book because I truly liked the characters and the plot and wanted to see what becomes of Tessa and Guy.
