Whoever contravenes any of the provisions of this Act, rules or the conditions Penalty, of a licence or a direction given by the Chief inspector or the inspector under this Act or the rules shall, on conviction, be punishable with fine not exceeding five thousand rupees and, in the case of continuing contravention, with excalators additional fine which may extend to one hundred rupees for every day during which such contravention continues after conviction for the first such contravention.

The fee shall be paid within such period and in such manner as may be prescribed. No lift or escalator shall be operated except under and in conformity with the terms and conditions of the licence granted in respect of the same.
