Emphasis apart, it is hard to say what is new in his account.
I approach whatever I read with skepticism, and what I most enjoyed about this book was how its The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine is a meticulously documented account of the campaign of the Jewish colonists in Palestine to forcibly expel the Arab population from the land now known as Israel.
But Carter challenges decades of mainstream American thinking to argue forcefully that Israel is an ally that has been far too closely protected by US power as it has continued occupying Arab territory, notwithstanding its unilateral withdrawal from Gaza in So much respect for this man having the courage to write the truth. I was shocked every couple of pages, I cried in subway while reading the testimonies, looking at the picture and just simply readying the history of this horrific and inhuman actions.
If Morris undermined the foundations of the old myths and smashed large parts of the walls, Pappe brings the roof crashing down: Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. This book is amazing! Peace Not Apartheid tells us little that is new or especially insightful to Arabs, Israelis or Europeans. Of course it is known that British military trained Jewish units to fight on side of the allies.
The ranting of a Holocaust-denying Iranian leader pursuing nuclear weapons doesn’t help. It is cleannsing to keep in mind that existence and honour seem to be two infinite values.

When one’s nation does wrong, only a few citizens will have the courage to point it out. The book is incredibly manipulative and tugs at the emotional strings of clueless readers to indoctrinate them with anti-Israeli and Islamist-aligned propaganda. Nazareth’s Christian Arabs were spared because Ben-Gurion realised that the outside world would not tolerate their removal. The alternative narrative of Israel’s genesis that Pappe presents may be difficult for some to accept, as it reveals the racist paope and cold disinterest in the lives of Palestine’s native people that dominated the ideology of Israel’s Zionist leaders, the British empire, and the international community.
Pappe’s Israel is the “last post-colonial European enclave in the Arab world”. There are some truths in the book and there’s no oof Israel has had it’s share of committing atrocities, but this book completely glosses over all of the atrocities committed by the Palestinians on the Christian Palestinians as well as the Muslim ones too. It has long been clear that the Palestinians were not, as used to palestinr claimed, encouraged to leave their homes “temporarily” by Arab leaders. Jan 11, Larry rated it really liked it.

It is particularly important to read this now I thought I knew the history of Israel’s annexation of Palestine but this was a totally shocking account! Pappe proves authoritatively that the actions by a group of supposed Zionists in Israel beginning in constitute ethnic cleansing.
