Life was so much thicker, and fragile, in those days. But then a “friend” was someone you actually hugged rather than “liked”and you feared for, and who knew and cherished your vulnerability.
Relief that things are easier today, but nostalgia too. Quite a good book, somewhat disserved by a fairly literal translation, which feels hanselann and unpolished.
