A victim of the pesticides the farm owners recklessly sprayed over the fields where poor, Mexican American immigrants picked fruits and vegetables, Cerezita is literally a head on a platter. Moraga is a very abstract herofs that uses a lot of symbolism. The play also deals with themes of repressed sexuality.

I’ve never read anything like this before. She is a prophetic figure, willing to see and speak, because seeing sanits speaking are all she can do, and to name the evils that others prefer to call the will of God. Because of this and the subjects dealt within, a lot of people would be turned off to Moraga’s wonderful plays.
Her interests include the intersections of gender, sexuality, and race, particularly in cultural production by women of color.
Its symbolism and imagery were so intense that it kept me from seeing the bigger picture.
